How to make tahini

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups hulled sesame seeds.
  • 3 tbsp olive oil.

In today’s lesson, you are going to learn how to make tahini at home using a smooth and creamy recipe. Even though tahini is nothing more than toasted and ground sesame seeds, it can be used in a wide variety of applications.

To begin, you’ll need approximately two cups of tahini, which can be made from four cups of white hold sesame seeds. While this may seem like a lot, keep in mind that the seeds will turn into tahini after being blended. Therefore, put the sesame seeds in a large pan and give them a quick toast for about five minutes, or until they become fragrant. After that, allow the seeds to cool to room temperature.

After transferring the sesame seeds to your Vitamix and inserting the tamper through the lid, blend on high for about a minute while pressing the seeds down into the blades in the same manner as if you were making homemade almond butter.

After one minute, you should have a thick paste made from the tahini, and at this point, you should add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. Because we are preparing the tahini in our Vitamix rather than our food processor, you will actually require less than half the amount of additional oil called for in most recipes, and the tahini that you make will be significantly creamier.
