How to make hazelnut chocolate like Nutella

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw hazelnuts.
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or hazelnut oil.
  • 2/3 cup coconut sugar.
  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  • Pinch of sea salt.

I’m going to teach you how to make Nutella, which is a delicious hazelnut chocolate spread. You may know it better by its brand name, though. The homemade version of Nutella is very simple to prepare, calls for high-quality ingredients, and in my opinion has a much more satisfying flavor than the commercially produced version, so let’s get started on making it.

You can roast your raw hazelnuts by placing them on a sheet pan, spreading them out, and then roasting them for approximately ten minutes, or until the skins have become darker and cracked.

When the hazelnuts are cool enough to the touch, wrap them in a kitchen towel, and then use the towel to rub the skins off of the hazelnuts as thoroughly as you can. Place the hazelnuts in the bowl of a food processor and blitz them for approximately five minutes, pausing the process periodically to scrape down the sides and the bottom of the bowl.

After the nut butter has been blended to a creamy consistency, add the oil and continue to process the mixture for another minute or so. After that, add your raw cacao powder, the sugar from the coconut, the vanilla extract, and some salt if you have it. Before you begin blending, it is highly recommended that you first process your coconut sugar in a spice grinder to produce an exceptionally fine powdered sugar. Simply put, it results in a much smoother Nutella overall.

Continue to blend all of these ingredients together for an additional minute or two, and then transfer your freshly made Nutella to an airtight container. At this point, the Nutella is still quite warm and liquid, but as it continues to cool, the consistency will begin to change to that of a spreadable paste. Don’t forget to give it a taste first!
